SWINDON put league strugglers Newent to the sword 6-0 to stay in touch with GoCrea8 League Conference North leaders West Wilts on Saturday.

The home side were looking to keep their promotion hopes alive and get back to winning ways having been held to draws in their previous two matches.

They went ahead midway through the first half thanks to a well-worked goal and final touch from Henry Cheney.

Minutes later, striker Tom Wickens got his opening goal of the afternoon and right on the stroke of half-time, Luke Cejer finished off a well-worked penalty corner to put the home side 3-0 up at the interval.

The second half saw Swindon take time to fnd their scoring stride again, but their fourth goal eventually came from Wickens.

This was followed minutes later with Wickens getting his third to seal the three points.

Wickens said: “It was good to get three goals, especially as I wasn’t on good form. Hopefully this will set myself and the team up for Saturday when we travel to face Cardiff Uni.”
