STRIKER Marc Richards says it didn’t take long for Swindon Town manager Phil Brown to start implementing his philosophy on the squad as he looks for his first win at the helm today away to Cambridge United.

Brown was officially unveiled by the club to the media on Thursday afternoon after initially being appointed on Monday evening.

The 35-year-old striker, who is only four goals behind top scorer Luke Norris, has notched seven goals since joining in January and says he and his team-mates have enjoyed a week of preparation ahead of their first test under Brown’s watchful eye.

“The first few days with Phil Brown have been really good. Training has been a breath of fresh air, he has come in and been positive,” said Richards.

“He has tried to get the lads to play on the front foot, worked on a few drills to make us solid as a unit and if we can take the information he’s given us into Saturday, then it should stand us in good stead.

“A manager can make a difference straight away, I have no doubt about that. The information he has given us over the last few days has been good and detailed.”

During the interim period between David Flitcroft departing the Energy Check County Ground and Brown’s arrival, Matt Taylor took charge of proceedings as a player-manager.

That stint saw him lead Swindon into last Saturday’s disappointed 3-0 defeat to Cheltenham Town.

However, Richards stated that result means nothing any more and that his team-mates need to move on to this weekend’s clash.

“You have to wipe out your memory as quickly as possible. We would have liked to have had a game on Tuesday to get that result out of us, but we are back to waiting a full week for a game,” he added.

“It’s given a week of preparation, a few days with the new gaffer and now we re going into this weekend looking for a win.

“I think the lads are comfortable because we are still in a good position. It’s a 10-game season so, ultimately, it is 10 cup finals.

“It’s down to us to find a level of consistency which will get us promoted, and the sooner we find that level, the better for the club.”
