PLAYER-COACH Aaron Nell says there is plenty of work to do as his Swindon Wildcats side claimed a 4-2 win over Streatham in the NIHL South One play-off quarter-finals at the Link Centre.

Jordan Kelsall, Chris Jones, Nell and Sam Bullas were all on target for the Wildcats, as they booked their spot in the semi-final stage of the competition.

“It’s been a great weekend for the club. We made it tough for ourselves at home but you have to give credit to Streatham because they played hard and had us on the ropes,” said Nell.

“We got a big goal at the end of the second period, then Renny (Marr, netminder) made some good saves and then we were good in the third period.

“There is always work to do. There is never no work to do and it is going to be a tough weekend next week.

“It’ll be two tough games and Peterborough are the only team who have had the better of us this year.”

With a two-goal lead already on their side due to Nell’s brace in Saturday night’s opening leg, Swindon were keen to extend that advantage further.

Just over 10 minutes in, Streatham came close to getting the game’s opener when Adam Carr pinged the puck off the pipes.

The visitor was partially involved in the game’s first goal, as he was given a two-minute penalty for hooking with 2:33 minutes left of the first period.

Swindon made the most of the powerplay as teenager Kelsall broke the deadlock as his shot got through a crowd of players before ending up in the back of the net.

The goal came in the 17th minute and gave the away side little time to respond, as they went back to the locker room a goal down.

After such a solid opening period, the Cats looked as if they were going to coast their way through the game but Ryan Webb put the frighteners back on Swindon when he notched twice within a minute to bring the tie back to life.

Subsequently, Nell called a time-out as their 3-0 aggregate advantage was reduced to 3-2 in the 32nd minute of the game.

Swindon managed to regain a sense of control and then hit back with less than a minute to go as Jones was on hand to tap the puck home at the back post.

The third period saw Swindon assert their dominance as Nell added his name to the scoresheet along with Bullas, to make it 4-2 and 6-2 on aggregate.
