LAURA Halford is unsure what the longer-term future holds after her latest success at the Commonwealth Games.

The rhythmic gymnast from Cricklade, 22, took her tally of medals from the Commonwealth Games to four by clinching individual silver in the hoop discipline for Wales on the Gold Coast last weekend.

Multiple British champion Halford has been on a gap year from studying for a degree in Sport and Exercise Science with Cardiff Metropolitan University but intends to return to her studies towards the end of the year.

Before then, the domestic championships take place in Telford in June while she retains an ambition of competing at the World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, in September.

"I'm going to definitely try for the world championships in September, so I'm going on a short holiday now,'' she said.

"Then I'll come back and do the British Championships in June.

"Hopefully I can go to the worlds in September and then I think I'm going to take a little bit of a break.

"I'm going to start my third year of university - I did a gap year this year - so I'm going to really focus on that.

"I've never really had a break from the sport since I was six years old, then I'm going to decide in the new year what I'm going to do.''
