SWINDON Wildcats’ latest addition Tyler Plews says he has joined the club to add to their growing trophy cabinet.

The 20-year-old has agreed to make the switch from north of the border after making 50 appearances in Scotland for Edinburgh Capitals.

Aaron Nell’s side ended a 27-year wait for a cup win when they clinched the Autumn Trophy back in March, only to double their success in the final game of season as they snared the NIHL Cup.

Plews, who plays as a defenceman, is looking to continue Swindon’s recent success next season at the Link Centre.

“I’m coming to Swindon to win trophies,” said Plews.

“I guess Aaron (Nell) had his eye on me and from speaking to Renny Marr, who’s a good friend, he got my contact details. After a few weeks talking, we came to a deal.

“It was an easy decision. I was looking for a new challenge after a few years in Edinburgh and I know Swindon will be the perfect club for me for me.

“I see myself as a tough, hard-working, gritty defenceman who enjoys playing the body and make that good first pass.

“Swindon’s last season was also another reason why I signed. I’m excited to be in a winning environment again and see if we can bring more silverware to Swindon.

“I’m looking to play in a team where I would be a possible key player, and I think the time is right to move somewhere else and improve my game.”

Plews becomes the sixth player to sign up for next season alongside Sam Bullas, Renny Marr, Floyd Taylor, Stevie Whitfield and Neil Liddiard, and player-coach Nell is delighted with his acquisition.

“I’m pleased to have signed Tyler,” said Nell.

“His experience at Elite League level is brilliant for someone so young. He’s excited to come down to Swindon and he wants to be a big part of our team.

“All the reports I’ve had on him have been excellent. He’s someone who plays the game hard and I think he’ll compliment the other D-men we have. I’m really looking forward to seeing him in Swindon colours.”
