SHRIVENHAM beat Sunningwell in their first home game of the season to make it three wins out of three in Oxfordshire Cricket Association Division Four.

The hosts bowled and fielded tidily at a pristine Shrivenham Recreation Ground to restrict the visiting side to 171 all out and despite losing key early wickets, got home with three wickets to spare thanks to a sweetly-struck century from Matt Haywood and key partnerships down the order.

Sunningwell won the toss and Nigel Lovell and Pete Winfrey advanced the score to 59-1, seeing off the opening bowlers and punishing anything loose.

However, Steve Bowles came on and took the key wicket of Lovell for an innings-high 41 before Manoj Perera got going at the other end and bowled the spell of the match, taking 5-24 from his 12 overs.

Georgia Brown came on the wrap up the tail in her first bowl of the season, clean bowling two batsmen.

After nine balls of the reply, Shrivenham were 10-2 but Haywood looked comfortable from the off as he and Perera rebuilt the innings, adding a quick 50 runs before Bradley Bowles added 45 with Haywood to take Shrivenham to 105-3.

Four wickets then fell in quick succession to turn the game leave Shrivenham 44 short of victory with only three wickets in hand.

Naveed Akram played a steady hand as Haywood continued to stroke the ball to the boundary, hitting the winning runs and sealing his maiden club century.
