JACK Smith is determined to up his points tallies for Swindon Robins, starting when they host Somerset Rebels in the SGB Premiership this evening.

British youngster Smith was brought in by Robins boss Alun Rossiter earlier this month after reserve Mitchell Davey suffered serious injuries in a crash while racing for Birmingham Brummies.

Life in the top flight so far has proven to be a baptism of fire for Smith as he has struggled to chip in with solid scores down at the bottom of the order.

However, with the Robins sitting joint top of the table at present, Smith has set his sights on upping his own contribution – and there is no better time than when Somerset head to the Abbey Stadium tonight.

“There are big expectations so I am happy to be here at number seven and will be trying to score the points the team needs from the position,” said Smith.

“It is a big goal. I am here to do my best to see what I can get out of it.

“I am on a two-point average but want to exceed that. The aim is to chip in with three to four points per meeting and get away from that average as a starter.

“It will be tough. Most riders in this league have been around for years and have experience.

“No matter who you go up against, it is difficult. All you can do is knuckle down and try to achieve your best and I’d like to thank Swindon for the opportunity to race.”
