SKIPPER Alex Kill led the way for his Swindon side as they recorded their first win of the WEPL Wiltshire season in a dominant 175-run success at home to Marlborough.

The visitors won the toss at the County Ground and opted to field, but they struggled to build any momentum as the hosts tallied a total of 280-7.

Captain Kill set an example to his team-mates with 76, Conor Taylor also recorded a half-century with 51, while Paul Davies was just short on 45.

The home side were just as impressive the ball as they ripped through Marlborough’s batting order before dispatching them for 105.

There were a trio of triples for Swindon as Kill, Tom Coding and Dean Williamson all collected three wickets to set up the big win.

“We lost a few wickets at times when we were looking comfortable,” said Swindon skipper Kill.

“If we had lost a couple more, it could have completely changed the game.

“Fortunately, we put a couple of good partnerships together and pushed on to 280. That was always going to be tough to chase.

“The lads did well to run hard in the middle overs and pick up runs on a hot day that made a big impact.

“Paul Davies and Dean Williamson did very well to capitalise on a platform that had been set for them by the top order.

“Tom Codling bowled a great early spell to take out the top order as well, which really put the game out of reach.”

Reflecting on his own performance, Kill says the victory was attributed to a solid team display from his colleagues.

“We are all very competitive and seeing anyone do well only wants us all to achieve more,” he added.

“We had a lot of great performances throughout the team on Saturday that have set the standard for the rest of the season that will no doubt lead to other guys raising the bar.”

Elsewhere, Royal Wootton Bassett continued their faultless start to the season with a dominating display at home to local rivals Purton.

After winning the toss, Darren Beasant decided to field, in what turned out to be an inspired decision as Purton were bowled out for just 47.

Akash Sharma and Sam Lawro both registered four wickets apiece, while Charlie Knight came away with two, completing a seven-wicket win.

In Premier Two Glos/Wilts, Lechlade are still awaiting their first win of the summer after suffering a fourth straight loss, this time by two wickets to Dumbleton.

Brad Dial scored an unbeaten century for the home side as they posted 268-4 off their 50 overs.

However, that high total was still not enough for Benny Ellis’ side as Dumbleton successfully chased it down, finishing on 269-8.
