RELEASED Swindon Town midfielder Tom Smith has been snapped up by rivals Cheltenham Town on a two-year deal.

The 20-year-old, who joined the County Ground outfit at the age of eight and progressed through the club’s academy, spent last season on loan at Bath City before returning to Town at the end of the season to feature in the club’s final reserves game.

Despite watching him play for both Bath and Town reserves, Swindon boss Phil Brown admitted he didn’t see enough from the youngster – and subsequently released him last month.

His release prompted Cheltenham manager Gary Johnson to snap up Smith who will officially join the Robins after passing a medical.
