ALUN Rossiter has backed Robins reserve Jack Smith to find his form as the season progresses, despite a frustrating start to his Swindon career.

Smith, who joined the Robins after Mitchell Davey was ruled out for the season following a horrifying spill at Birmingham which left the Aussie in intensive care, has struggled for form with the Robins so far – picking up 7+1 from 21 rides in six meetings.

Despite his form, Rossiter has been impressed by the teenager’s attitude in the pits – suggesting he’s quickly fitted into life in the Robins camp.

“It’s good that he’s putting the laps in after the meeting, he’s trying to improve,” said Rossiter.

“It’s better to have that than someone that comes into the meetings down because they’re struggling and not mixing or talking to people.

“Jack is trying things and he’s putting laps in around the track, I know he can do better than he’s doing.”

A positive start for the Robins sees them joint top of the SGB Premiership table with Wolverhampton Wolves after nine meetings each.

While Rossiter’s troops have raced more away meetings than Wolves, the Swindon boss said he’s taking little notice of the league table – instead focussing his attention on improving his side’s away form.

Rossiter said: “I don’t look too much into it, even though it is nice to get a few wins under our belt.

“We lost a couple of away meetings at Belle Vue and Somerset, that was disappointing not to get anything from those meetings. I thought we should’ve got points.”
