A NINE-year-old budding snooker star who travels from his home in Swindon to a club in Newbury every week has won his first competition.

Taylor Elliott said he was “really happy” to have clinched the junior six-reds league title at The Crucible Sports & Social Club.

The Year Four pupil at Eldene Primary School finished the 12-week season five victories ahead of joint runners-up Jack Watts and Jaydon Elliott, Taylor’s brother.

Reflecting on his first title, Elliott said: “I’m really happy and proud of myself.”

The young potter, who is based at the 147 Snooker Club in his home town, made his debut on the Cuestars South of England U21 Bronze Tour in Salisbury in April.

World Snooker community coach John Hunter, who helps to run the sessions and presented the Cuestars Coaching Programme certificates, said: “All of these players have ambitions to join the Bronze Tour in the near future.”
