NEW Swindon Town signing Jermaine McGlashan says the opportunity to work with manager Phil Brown again played a big part in his decision to head to the Energy Check County Ground.

McGlashan revealed he received numerous offers following his release from League One side Southend United at the end of last season, but the contract on the table from Brown at SN1 proved his preferred option.

The 30-year-old promptly put pen to paper on a two-year deal to sign on a free transfer at the start of the week and will link up with his new team-mates for the first time on Monday when the squad report back for pre-season training.

Brown was the man to bring McGlashan to the Shrimpers back in the summer of 2016, and the two worked alongside each other for 18 months before the former Premier League boss departed Roots Hall back in January.

After Southend opted not to offer him fresh terms following the expiration of his contract this summer, midfielder McGlashan felt the prospect of a reunion with Brown was too good to refuse.

“That was probably what edged it for me,” McGlashan told the Advertiser.

“Phil is someone that knows how I work and I know how he works. I enjoyed playing under him and I know his philosophy, and I know what is expected of me.

“I did get approached pretty early after I left Southend and had a few offers on the table, but I went away and thought about it and discussed it with my family.

“The fact there was the chance to work with a manager I had worked with before, and the ambition of the club and the chance to potentially be at the top end of the table was too good to turn down, so I’m delighted to sign.”

McGlashan spent two seasons at Gillingham prior to signing for Southend, playing frequently alongside Town striker Luke Norris in that time.

Plenty of other members of the Swindon squad have also caught McGlashan’s eye and he cannot wait to integrate himself into the group next week.

“It is only really Luke Norris that I know, although I haven’t actually spoken to him yet, so I am looking forward to linking up with him,” said McGlashan.

“Obviously I am familiar with playing against some of the guys, like Keshi Anderson and Matt Taylor. He has scored a few free-kicks against a couple of teams I have played for, so I know all too well about that.

“It will be interesting when we get in on Monday. I want to get in and hit the ground running.

“I know what I offer and how I can help the team get to where I believe they should be.”
