INJURED Swindon Robins rider Mitchell Davey hopes to get a better understanding of his recovery next week after declaring himself happy with his progress so far.

Two weeks ago, Davey left hospital for the second time since sustaining serious injuries in a horror fall back in May – having to return in order to have his lung drained.

The 28-year-old Australian will return to Swindon on Thursday for the first time since suffering those injuries while on National League duty with Birmingham Brummies, and will be guest of honour for the club’s SGB Premiership meeting at home to King’s Lynn Stars.

Although Davey is facing an extended spell on the sidelines, he is pleased to have made strides towards a full recovery ahead of receiving a more extensive diagnosis on his condition on Monday.

“I’m happy to say I am more mobile on my feet, however, after a while I get tired and sometimes still struggle to breathe correctly,” said Davey.

"I find myself yawning a lot to increase my oxygen intake. At the start, a walk up the vegetable aisle at the grocery shops was hard work, but with persistence I can endure a full shop now and bug Donna (his wife) to let me go walking daily.

"I had my first physio session last Friday. They were quite happy with my progression already. My shoulder had good range of movement, as well as my back, but both areas have had significant muscle loss.

"For the time being, I'm only allowed to do mild stretching with a look to progressing to light weight training in the coming weeks.

"On Monday, I have a day with doctors and physios to find out how all the bones are healing and also how my lung progression is going.

“Hopefully I get some good news from that and as I say, I'm happy with the progression so far."

Davey, who appeared in five meetings for Alun Rossiter’s Swindon before his crash, will be bringing a bike along with him to the Abbey Stadium tomorrow – but for photo opportunities only where he will also sign autographs between 6.30-7pm inside the main gate.
