PLAYER-COACH Aaron Nell says he is delighted to have reunited a dynamic duo in Floyd Taylor and Luc Johnson after the club announced the latter has agreed a new deal at the Link Centre.

Johnson arrived at the Cats last summer from Milton Keynes Lightning and made an instant impact in his maiden year in Wiltshire, making 30 appearances and scoring nine goals.

The 20-year-old is a welcome addition to the Wildcats’ roster for next season, and Nell believes Johnson and Taylor’s partnership will flourish once again.

“Luc was an important player to bring back and it was an easy conversation. It was a case of we wanted Luc and he wanted to play for us,” said Nell.

“We had high expectations for Luc last year. He was extremely reliable and him and Taylor had a great partnership at the end of the season.

“Luc plays with so much speed that he really puts people under pressure. When him and Floyd play like they do, play hard and at their best, they make our team a lot better.

“With the energy they bring, the speed and the physicality, they make us a tough team to play against.

“When you have as much speed as Luc, it is hard to play against. It gets people on their heels, and when you play with that much pace, it’s not about being physical.

“Luc is a small guy but he puts people under pressure and creates a lot of turnovers with how fast he is.”

Naturally with his age, Nell believes Johnson can only continue to get better.

“There is a lot more to come from him, I am sure. He came on a lot last season through the responsibility that he was given,” said Nell.

“He likes the responsibility and he is very mature for his age. He’s a great person to have around and he does a lot of the little things that not many young players do.

“He blocks shots and does all the little things you need to do to win. You just want to see everyone improve from top to bottom.

“Next season, we want to get going from the start. We need to be flying in September and then kick on.

“It’s going to be a big season for us. We want to do as well as we can for ourselves and our fans.”
