HIGHWORTH Town boss Jeff Roberts says his squad is coming together nicely after the club announced an influx of new arrivals for the coming season.

Former Swindon Supermarine and Shrivenham goalkeeper Connor Johns has agreed to join Highworth, who have also enlisted the help of former Chippenham Town assistant manager Tom Jones as they begin life as a Southern League side.

Ryan Wood, Darren Jeffries and Matty Grabe are other new names to head to the Worthians, joining from Supermarine, Frome Town and North Leigh respectively.

Boss Roberts said: “We have brought Connor Johns in from Shrivenham after I tried to get him in last year too.

“Ryan Wood is another one we have signed. He wasn’t enjoying his football at Supermarine, so I sat with him and told him what our intentions are for the season.

“The issues we had last year was attitude and commitment, so we are trying to bring in players who are a little bit different and have the right attitude.

“We’ve signed Darren Jeffries. He was at Frome last year and he will bring us a bit of experience.

“Another young lad that we brought in is Matty Gray from North Leigh. We enquired about him and was told he was a very good left back so we got him on board.

“He’s only 19-year-old and he has a bit of Southern League experience, so he knows what it is about.”

Four players from last season's squad have also agreed to stay on, with Ash Edenborough, Keiron Gleed, Wayne Turk and Jordan Roberts all keen to remain.

Edenborough heads the list of the retained players, as he notched 25 times in 34 games to help the Worthians climb out of the Hellenic League.

Roberts added: “Ash Edenborough was one of our main priorities to bring back. He’s quite a handful up front and he was more than happy to stay.

“Jordan has just come back from an injury, so he will be like a new signing for us.

“Wayne Turk has committed as well, which gives us that experience.

"Ross Adams is signing too, but can’t commit fully, and I’ve spoken to Chris Taylor so hopefully he will put pen to paper.”
