WANBOROUGH wheelchair tennis ace Louise Hunt feels her game is in good shape after a strong return to action in recent weeks.

Hunt had a month away from the court following the Israel Open in late April, where she partnered fellow Brit Lucy Shuker to the doubles title as well as reaching the singles semi-finals.

She made her comeback at the World Team Cup at the end of May, helping the Great Britain ladies team to a bronze medal in the Netherlands.

Two-time Paralympian Hunt followed that up with a trip to the Open International de L’ile de Re in France, where the good results continued to flow.

Again she made the final of the doubles competition, finishing as runner-up alongside South African partner Kgothatso Montjane, and also claimed a memorable victory over Germany’s world number seven Katharina Kruger en route to the singles semi-finals.

“I’m really pleased with how I got in France. It was not about how I won the matches I did, but more about who I did it against,” said Hunt.

“It was a good tournament for me and it has given me a lot of belief that my game is in a good place.

“I wasn’t that happy with how I played in the final of the doubles, but to reach the semi-finals in the singles and the finals in the doubles was a very encouraging tournament.”

Although Hunt and Team GB narrowly missed out on the chance to compete for gold at the World Team Cup, they more than made up for it in the third-placed play-off against France to come away with a tangible reward for their efforts.

“The World Team Cup was great to be part of too, so it has been a very good couple of weeks for me,” said 27-year-old Hunt.

“We had a very tough draw and some very hard games in the group, but the team did really well.

“We really had to battle through and there was no disgrace in losing to China in the semi-finals, and to get a medal at the end of it was great.”

Hunt is set to compete at the Wroclaw Cup in Poland this week before returning for Wimbledon at the start of July.

Although Hunt missed out on a wildcard into the ladies’ wheelchair singles draw, she will be back at the All England Club to provide television commentary for matches.
