RE-SIGNING with Swindon Wildcats was a ‘no-brainer’, according to forward Luc Johnson after he put pen to paper on a deal to stay at the Link Centre on Friday.

The 20-year-old becomes the latest member of the 2017-18 double cup winning squad to return to the roster for the new season.

Johnson notched nine goals in 31 appearances for the Cats last season, an impressive return considering it was his first year at the Link.

Given the game time and the success he enjoyed last season, the youngster says it wasn’t a difficult decision to come back to the Cats.

“After winning two trophies last year and seeing the team that Aaron Nell is currently putting together, it was a no-brainer to sign,” said Johnson.

“Last year from Christmas, on I believed we were one of the best, if not the best, teams. If we can bring that from September, then we will be good all season.

“On a personal level, I just enjoyed doing my bit to help everyone win. For some guys, it was their first trophies and I’m just happy to see them raise it.”

Now comfortably in the off-season, Johnson says he and the other players are itching to get back on the ice, with the 20-year-old keen to show the benefits of his hard work.

“Personally, I thought last year was good for me. My aim for the summer is to get bigger, stronger, faster and ready to improve myself and bring more success to Swindon," said Johnson.

“I don’t think the fans know how much the players appreciate their support. It was amazing all of last season, and the message to them is to keep doing what they do. We can’t wait to get going again in September.

“I know I’ll kick on more this season. Aaron and the organisation are supporting me 100 per cent on and off the ice, and that makes it easier to be able to progress when you have full support

“Hopefully I can start to score more, but I will play a big roll and help the team in any way I can.

"I am working closely with the club, and they gave me a programme which will have me in top condition come September.”
