JERMAINE McGlashan is itching to get going as he gets set to report for duty as a Swindon Town player for the first time today.

Midfielder McGlashan became Swindon’s first new signing ahead of the 2018-19 season a week ago, agreeing a two-year contract with the club after arriving on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old got a taste for life at SN1 when undergoing his medical at the Energy Check County Ground last Monday, but the start of the club’s pre-season training programme today will mark a maiden meeting with his new team-mates.

“I can’t wait to get started,” McGlashan told the Advertiser

“You are doing your pre pre-season work, but you can never be fully prepared for what pre-season is going to be.

“It is an exciting time as well. You enjoy working hard and keeping fit.

“On Monday we are in for testing, but I was in the club last week and I got to meet one or two people, so I can’t wait to get started and get my boots on.”

McGlashan is well known to Town boss Phil Brown, with the two having previously worked together at Southend United in League One before the former Premier League manager left his post at Roots Hall back in January.

Brown is excited about the attacking threat that McGlashan will bring to the Swindon team, and the former Cheltenham Town and Gillingham player hopes he is able to live up to that billing.

“I bring pace and directness, making chances and getting crosses into the box,” said McGlashan.

“My game is quite attacking, I am a ball-carrier and get the team up the pitch.

“That’s what I have been doing all my career. That is the sort of player I am, and the gaffer knows that is what I bring to the table, so I am delighted to be a part of this.”
