WILTSHIRE face an uphill task to avoid defeat in their opening Unicorns Championship Western Division match of the season after a tough second day against Dorset at Sherborne School today.
The visitors trailed Dorset's first innings total of 170 all out by 30 runs at the end of day one on Sunday but added just 23 more runs before losing their final four wickets today.
Former Leicestershire off-spinner Jigar Naik took 4-35 to help mop up the Wiltshire tail as the innings was ended at 153 and the visiting side then toiled in the early stages of the hosts' second innings.
Former Oxford MCCU batsman Edward Ellis (65), the nephew of former Northamptonshire and Sussex opener Richard Montgomerie, then shared a third-wicket stand of 116 with Luke Webb (76), Scott Currie adding 42 as Dorset reached 213-4.
However, Wiltshire fought back as the final six wickets fell for just 36 runs as Joe King (3-76) and skipper Ed Young (3-25) led the charge as they left their side with 267 to win.
The top two of Will Wade and Jake Goodwin were removed cheaply before Uzi Qureshi hit 42 from 53 balls.
But Wiltshire were five down with only 83 on the board at stumps.
