SWINDON skipper Alex Kill hopes his men can continue their inspired run of form in the coming months after coasting to a 143-run victory against Calne on Saturday.

Kill’s men have reversed their fortunes from earlier in the season and are now on a three-game winning run having also beat Royal Wootton Bassett and Corsham in recent weeks.

But the Swindon skipper has warned his side of complacency with fixtures against Purton, Warminster and Chippenham to follow – all of whom are in WEPL Wiltshire’s top six after eight fixtures each.

Kill said: “I think we’ve finally found a good rhythm and good performances are becoming a lot more frequent.

“We have a run of tough games against teams that are also winning a lot so we will need to take this confidence and really run with it.

“It’s good that we aren’t relying on one guy to get all of our runs, we know the majority of the side have the ability to score runs.

“Our new ball bowlers have been great and are really helping us get a foothold in the game too.

“Spin has also helped us over the last few weeks and with the hot weather coming up will be just as important moving forward.”

Saturday’s game against Calne saw Swindon win the toss and unsurprisingly opt to bat first on a dry wicket.

Though only Liam Tucker (50) managed to reach a half-century, solid knocks from Chris Aubrey (39), Daniel Harris (32) and opener Marc Williamson (31) guided the hosts to 264 all out from their 50 overs.

Calne collapsed in reply and were soon five wickets down having posted just 17 runs.

Though Devane Warner (17) and Jake Forster (42*) tried to rescue something from the innings, they were helpless to see Swindon bowl out the visitors for 121 as Cameron Baden, Conor Cleary and Adam Tucker all picked up three wickets.

Kill said: “The start of both innings were both really strong for us.

“We put on a good opening partnership after winning the toss which set us up for a decent total.

“In the second innings taking a handful of early wickets put the game out of Calne’s reach pretty quickly, which is exactly what we needed to do.

“We expected the pitch to get dryer and lower as the day went on, but it was still a good batting track, so we didn’t expect an early finish at all.

“It was just good to keep the winning streak going and keeping the momentum going which is always important.”

The result leaves Swindon fifth in WEPL Wiltshire.

Elsewhere, Purton were also winners as their bowlers did the damage in a 100-run success against Devizes.

After winning the toss and batting, Purton reached 270 all out as Tom Whittaker hit 73 from 86 balls before skipper Aaron Lee provided some late fireworks with 52 from 44.

There were two wickets each for Devizes’ Ben McGowan, Patrick Bromley and Thomas Grant but their reply never got going.

David Bromley hit 84 but only one other batsman reached double figures as Callum Wright (3-33) and Adam Woolford (3-37) dismissed them for 100.

Royal Wootton Bassett almost came unstuck with the bat as they lost by 126 runs to Chippenham.

Adeesha Nanayakkara’s 71 and an unbeaten 58 from Richard Bates got Chippenham to 237-8 having elected to bat, Akash Sharma taking 3-37 for Bassett.

But the reply ended at 111 all out in the 32nd over, Bates taking 5-17.
