SWINDON Robins boss Alun Rossiter is not overly concerned by the lengthy break enforced on his side as they are set to go two-and-a-half weeks without a fixture.

The Robins were denied the chance to strengthen their position at the top of the SGB Premiership table this week when their scheduled trip to Rye House Rockets on Wednesday was cancelled by the hosts at 24 hours’ notice.

Prior to that, Swindon had already take the decision to postpone next Monday’s proposed home meeting against Belle Vue Aces due to a clash with the FIFA World Cup.

England could potentially be involved in a last-16 match that day, with Rossiter conceding that it would be detrimental to the club to try and stage a fixture at the same time.

Swindon’s most recent meeting was last Thursday at home to King’s Lynn Stars, and they will now not race again until Monday, July 9 when they travel to Belle Vue.

Rossiter admits the current lay-off for his troops is not ideal, but does not believe it will have any negative impact in the long run.

“I am not too worried about there being a gap because most of the boys ride elsewhere anyway, so will keep themselves ticking over, but we do try to keep the continuity going and make sure we don’t get these gaps,” said Rossiter.

“Unfortunately, you get the unforeseen circumstances at Rye House, and then on Monday was all about trying to get as many people through the gate as possible.

“With the World Cup and there potentially being an England game, there is no point battling against that, especially with how well they are doing.”

Rossiter and his troops were raring to go for their trip to Rye House, which made the timing of the cancellation all the more disappointing.

However, he conceded it was a situation beyond the Robins’ control.

“It was frustrating because it was a bit last minute, but it is out of our hands, unfortunately,” said Rossiter.

“We are just waiting to see what is going to happen. Whether there are a couple of problems there, I am not sure, but that is not for me to comment on anyway.

“They asked to call-off the meeting and we have to respect that.

“It is disappointing because we have our riders to organise, and have flights booked for Tobiasz (Musielak). The boys always want to race.

“It is just one of those things. It is nothing to do with us, but what can we do?”
