SWINDON Town’s opening pre-season fixture at Cirencester Town has been moved to accommodate fans wanting to watch England’s World Cup match against Columbia.

Phil Brown’s men were due to face the Centurions on Tuesday, July 3, at the Corinium Stadium ahead of further pre-season fixtures against Melksham, Chippenham, West Brom, Portsmouth and Swindon Supermarine as well as the club’s pre-season training tour to Spain.

But following England’s 1-0 defeat to Belgium on Thursday night, Gareth Southgate’s side will now play their first knockout fixture at the World Cup on Tuesday night against Columbia - a date originally scheduled for Swindon's match against Cirencester.  

With fewer fans inclined to travel to Cirencester for the contest, Swindon Town quickly agreed for the match to be played 24 hours later on the Wednesday.

In addition, Town have advised that the kick-off time of their friendly at Melksham Town a week tomorrow will also be moved, should England continue to make progress at the World Cup.

Town to the InfiLED Arena on July 7 for their second sumer friendly, with the match kicking off at 3pm should England fail to beat Colombia on Tuesday.

However, should England advance to the quarter finals then the Melksham match will kick-off at 11.30am on the same day instead, with the the Sky Bar and the clubhouse at Melksham Town open for supporters to stay and enjoy the England game afterwards.

Town have revealed they will select a full-strength side for the Melksham fixture.
