DESPITE being told by his trainer not to return to the gym until July, Luke Watkins says he can’t get enough after revealing he has already been back in training.

The Swindon cruiserweight was told by Paddy Fitzpatrick that he ‘didn’t want to see him anywhere near the gym’ after his defeat to Lawrence Okolie as he deserved a rest from the sport.

Less than a week later, Watkins had already returned to training, ahead of a September bout which will be shown on Sky Sports.

While he was told to stay away, Watkins did least book a holiday and will look to report back to training for camp next month.

“I’m going to have a little holiday, I am going to book that and go next week,” said the 28-year-old.

“If I am honest I am already back in the gym training, I can’t keep away because it is my life.

“I don’t know what to do with my time otherwise. I’m only doing one session a day, cardio and weight stuff but for me, you have got to keep ticking over and you can’t let your body stop.

“I enjoy the gym. Before boxing, which seems a long time ago now, the gym is what I did, I loved it. It will always be what I do.”

After the show at a sold-out York Hall last month, it emerged Watkins had agreed a two-fight deal with Sky, with the first being his defeat against Okolie.

While the former New College student refused to be drawn on what lies ahead, he is looking forward to getting back at it later this year.

“The way Lawrence held himself, he learned to keep it a bit more low-key and hopefully I’ve been out there conducting myself and they can see this is the level that I am at,” he said.

“I won’t say what it is yet, but we had a two-fight deal with Sky so I will be back out with them in September.

“I want to get back at it. I’ve been out to a few charity events and things like that, hopefully I get invited to a few more because I enjoy doing things for this community,

“I like being a part of it because what they do for me is unreal. But after the break I go back to the gym in July for camp properly.”
