SWINDON Shock are on the hunt for some new recruits as they start preparing for their second year in National League Division Three South.

Last season, player-coach David Colclough guided his team to eighth spot in their first campaign in the third tier and now wants to see the club push on.

With question marks over the availability of Spencer Wells and top scorer Antonio Wilburn, Colclough says there are spots to be filled in his squad in both their National League and local league sides.

Two-hour training sessions will take place once a week at Oakfield Campus, Marlowe Avenue, startiing on Wednesday, July 4, until the end of July  and will cost £4 as the club seek to boost their ranks.

Colclough said: “I know Spencer Wells is awaiting surgery on his back and Antonio Wilburn is training with a Division One side, so we could possibly lose him.

“Everyone else is returning and we are pulling up a few from our junior side, but I just want to see what else is out there.

“Even if the players don’t make it to the National League side, they can filter down to the local league – we want to increase the size of the club.

“Last season, we started off with good numbers and then we had some injuries and stuff like that, so I didn’t want that to happen again.

“I’d rather register some players and know that we have the option to pull up a player.”

During the sessions, the Shock coach will put the players through their paces with drills whilst assessing their compatibility with his existing squad.

After a month of work, the players will be whittled down and distributed between the club’s two teams.

Colclough is particularly keen on capturing a new point guard and a shooting guard for the upcoming campaign.

“The position we tend to lack is a point guard. Antonio tends to run that and then I drop in, but I prefer to coach,” he added.

“We have alternatives with Lee Hobbis, but it is about commitment. We have people in and out of the team.

“A point guard and another shooting guard would definitely help. We will run the sessions for a month and then mix them with the rest of the team and see how they get on.

“We will run them through a few drills and see how they do, see whether they can handle coaching and after the month we will select some for both of our teams.”
