SWINDON Robins team manager Alun Rossiter says last season’s SGB Premiership title-winning heroics at Wolverhampton Wolves’ Monmore Green home count for nothing when they make their first return to the venue this evening.

The Robins’ 47-42 victory in the Black Country completed a stunning turnaround in the 2017 Grand Final last October as they lifted the trophy courtesy of a one-point aggregate success.

Although a strong contingent of Swindon’s championship-winning team remain to do battle against Wolves once again tonight, Rossiter says little can be read into that past meeting.

Swindon are looking to return to form after a heavy 55-35 defeat at Belle Vue Aces a week ago.

Rossiter has taken inspiration from their recent conquerors after Mark Lemon’s side bounced back from a 19-point thumping at the hands of Poole Pirates prior to that defeat of the Robins.

“Last season’s Grand Final was then and this is now. You can’t dwell on the past,” said Rossiter.

“As nice as it was at the time, this is a new team and a new year.

“Obviously there are still five of the seven riders that were in our team from last year, so they can take heart from that, but Wolves is never an easy place to go.

“To lose so heavily to Belle Vue last time out was disappointing. They were off the back of a real good hammering at Poole, so obviously Mark was looking for a response and he got it.

“I am looking for a response on Monday now and I believe we can do that. I am confident in the team we have.”

Rossiter's troops were dented by news that both David Bellego and Zach Wajtknecht will miss the trip after suffering from injuries caused over the weekend.

Bellego crashed out of a grasstrack meeting in Marmande, southern France, on Friday night while Wajtknecht has been ruled out of action for nine days after falling during his third ride at the FIM World U21 Team Cup semi final.

The Robins will operate rider replacement for Bellego while Wajtknecht's replacement is yet to be confirmed by the club.

After their trip to the Midlands, Swindon host Premiership leaders Somerset Rebels on Thursday night.

That will be the Robins’ first home meeting in four weeks and they will be looking to make it nine wins out of nine at the Abbey Stadium in 2018

“We are more than capable of winning on our travels. It is just a matter of time before we click back into it,” said Rossiter.

“We are doing alright at home. We did get run close by Rye House a few weeks ago, but that was a good reminder that we never take anyone lightly.

“It has been a bit of a while since our last home meeting but hopefully we can keep up our winning run there. We know the best way around the Abbey. I am confident we can pull that one off.”
