I’M quickly making up for lost time following my nine days out after my crash in Glasgow, and it’s helping me learn a great deal.

On my return at King’s Lynn last week, I had to complete seven rides after my reserve partner Jack Smith crashed out of heat two.

Thankfully Jack was okay and was able to race again for the Robins on Monday at home against Wolverhampton, a meeting in which we picked up three big points.

It was also another meeting where I had to complete another seven rides after two tapes exclusions.

It’s good for me as I get more rides under my belt, but when you’re not expecting it and you’ve planned to go out in two or three heats time it can be rushed.

I’ll be working on the bike and the next minute I’m at the tapes. But that’s racing for you, and it’s helping me develop my skills.

It’s good that the Robins are back in a winning groove at home, and right now we’re attracting good crowds to the Abbey Stadium.

But clubs are always looking to attract new faces to the terraces, and having Lee (Kilby) going around the local schools really helps.

I helped him out by providing a bike in the winter so kids could get an understanding to what a bike looks and feels like.

He’s a good person to have at the club, and attracting a new generation of fans is important. Speedway is an exciting sport and we should talk highly about it.

Speedway is unique, you can leave a speedway meeting pleased with the night of racing you watched even if your team lost. You don’t necessarily get that in football.

Social media is important if we are to keep fans involved and attract new supporters, and I think Swindon do a great job.

My job is to focus on my racing though.

Away from speedway I had a positive performance in the European U21 Grasstrack Championships when finishing third not too long ago, and I’d still like to win a world title at that.

I’ve got to keep working at it, but at the moment I’m doing a lot more speedway racing than grasstrack – however I do want to stay involved in that discipline as it works well for me.
