SWINDON Robins will be looking to earn their first away victory since April tonight when travelling to the Oak Tree Arena to face Somerset Rebels (7.30pm).

Alun Rossiter’s troops have lost eight successive away meetings since the club defeated Leicester Lions in dramatic circumstances more than three months ago.

While the Robins remain top of the SGB Premiership table following Monday night’s crucial win at home to play-off chasing Wolverhampton Wolves, teams behind Swindon have meetings in hand.

It makes tonight’s clash one where the Robins must look to earn at least a point, but they will have to do so without skipper Nick Morris – who is taking a few days off after crashing heavily in heat one on Monday.

Fellow Australian Rohan Tungate will fill Morris’ void, while the in-form Troy Batchelor will step up to number one after recording a green sheet average of 8.52 in his last 20 meetings.

Team manager Rossiter said: “Nick is a bit battered and he needs to take a few days off just to recover.

“The morale is fine, it’s never really been a problem for us.

“We just need that consistency on the road, we should be doing better than what we are.

“But we have a chance to correct that tonight at Somerset, hopefully we’ll pull something out of the bag.”

With only seven more meetings scheduled – four of those being at home – the Robins are one of six teams still in with a realistic chance of finishing in one of the four play-off spots available.

Chasing teams, including tonight’s opponents Somerset, have between two and four meetings in hand.

With Somerset, Poole Pirates, King’s Lynn Stars, Wolverhampton and Belle Vue Aces all in a position to leapfrog the Robins by time they have caught up on meetings, Rossiter highlighted the importance of not only picking up points on the road but also denying visiting teams consolation bonus points.

He said: “Apart from getting the win on Monday, I highlighted to the team before that I didn’t want Wolverhampton getting any points.

“You want to make sure that teams like Wolverhampton pick up no points.

“Zach Wajtknecht was superb for us on Monday, he was outstanding. And he’s only getting better as every week passes which is good to see from our point of view.”
