SWINDON Town goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux admitted he and his teammates were ‘devastated’ with their performance following their 4-1 defeat to Lincoln City.

The stopper was called into action several times during the course of the game, but could do little to change Town’s luck as they were overpowered by Danny Cowley’s men.

The defeat was a second on the spin for Swindon, who also conceded four last Tuesday night when they came up against Chelsea U21s in the Checkatrade Trophy.

The 24-year-old former Liverpool goalkeeper says his teammates are fully aware that they were well short of their opponents, but believes the outcome could have been different had they been the first to score in the second half.

“The overall feeling in the changing room is disappointment - at the start of the second half it was a very even game,” he said.

“I just thought if we were able to get a goal early on the game would have turned. We didn’t and towards the end of the game we pushed forward and they got two late goals.

“We have a lot of new faces, a lot of players left and a lot of players came in but Lincoln is a hard place to go.

“Any time in the season it’s hard but there is another game on Tuesday. We are happy they’re coming thick and fast so we can rectify it.”

The game means Swindon have conceded 10 times in three games, something Vigouroux admits is unacceptable.

Town do not have time to dwell on the result, as they face Forest Green Rovers in the Carabao Cup at the Energy Check County Ground on Tuesday evening.

The Swindon keeper believes the game presents the perfect opportunity for his team to right their wrongs.

“As a goalkeeper and the defence as well, you shouldn’t really be conceding four goals in a game where we were in it for the most part,” he added.

“It’s devastating, but there is a game on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup and it is a good opportunity for us to put things right.

“I think we can play different styles and we work very hard in training on different scenarios I just think when they scored the third goal we needed to open up a bit but the fourth goal killed the game.”
