PHIL Brown believes Swindon Town side are still suffering a hangover from last season after they were dismantled by Lincoln City on Saturday.

The former Premier League boss admitted his team lacks experience and gave further emphasis to the need for some new faces.

With nine already through the door at the Energy Check County Ground, Brown is adamant he is still a striker and a defender away from his ideal situation.

Frontman Marc Richards looks set to come back from his injury before schedule while midfielder Toumani Diagourga is still a while away from match fitness.

That said, Brown says the need for their experience has been highlighted following their 4-1 defeat at Sincil Bank.

“I’ve got to get rid of that mentality from last season and there only way to do that is to bring in some experienced players,” he said.

“This division is relentless. They come at you week in week out that pressure will be at us all season and we have to get that mentality right.

“The mentality has to come from within the group and from some experienced players, I know we are crying out for a bit more experience either on the field or wherever.

“Toumani Diagouraga is an experienced player, Marc Richards is an experienced player and these are the kind of players we need out on the pitch, fully fit.

“They’ll be able to drag and educate the young players through the game.

“I’m bringing Scott Twine off the bench. He’s a young lad with lots of energy and they (Lincoln) are bringing Matty Green off the bench and had Matt Rhead on the bench waiting to come on.

“They had men coming on and we had boys.

The Swindon manager says he still has plenty of tricks up his sleeve, including a change in formation or change in personnel, but claims he is reluctant do to that so quickly and would rather see his side adapt to his way of thinking.

“The work on the training ground is vitally important for the players whether that is as a collective while they’re out there or not,” he added.

“I have a change in personnel and a change in formation in my locker, that is for sure but we will work on the mentality without a shadow of a doubt we have to get that mentality of keeping clean sheets.

“We need two strong characters who are going to help the team for 70-75 minutes, we were in game of football were in the final 10 minutes we collapsed.”
