Rosco bids for top spot

ALUN Rossiter hopes to see Swindon Robins sitting top of the Elite League perch tonight as he goes in search of an ambitious double over Ipswich Witches.

Swindon came from behind to beat Ipswich 50-43 at Foxhall Stadium on Monday to move joint top with Eastbourne Eagles.

Victory at Blunsdon tonight would see Robins looking down on their rivals for the first time this season, and Rosco is determined to see the job through.

He said: "It would be really nice if we could go top.

"We know there is still a long way to go but it has been a very good start. I don't think anybody expected that.

"Monday was a fantastic result. We showed a lot of resilience to come from so far behind to win it.

"It was the same at Arena Essex last week. We got off to a slow start, but we came back strong and nearly caught them at the end.

"At Ipswich we just kept plugging away. The young lads never dropped their heads."

Tonight's meeting is likely to be a tense affair after the Ipswich team management claimed Swindon had broken league rules by employing Sheffield's Joel Parsons as a guest rider on Monday.

The Witches argued Parsons' interim green sheet average made him ineligible to ride, but Speedway Control Bureau manager Graham Reeve ruled that Swindon had acted in good faith.

"It will probably add a bit more spice to the meeting, but as I said the other day, we did nothing wrong at Ipswich," said Rossiter.

"It's another big home meeting for us and we are looking for another home win."
