Adams: 'Now I'm back in the race for world title

LEIGH Adams declared his bid for a first world speedway title officially under way after clinching the second round of the Grand Prix series in Poland.

Robins' skipper lifted the European Grand Prix title in Leszno on Saturday night, bouncing back emphatically from a disappointing opening round in Slovenia two weeks ago.

Adams saw off former world champion Greg Hancock, current title holder Nicki Pedersen and home rider Jaroslaw Hampel in the final in front of 24,000 fans at the track where he has ridden Polish League speedway for the past 14 years.

It moved him fourth overall in the standings, just eight points adrift of Pedersen, and Adams admitted the result was crucial in re-igniting his world title dream.

"The 2008 World Championship starts now," said the 37-year-old.

"'This really is awesome, especially to win in Leszno, my home Polish League track. The result is huge for me.

"We have put Krsko (Slovenia) behind us. This is the one that I really wanted to win, it is my adopted home.

"My Grand Prix campaign starts here and I am right back in the race. I've put Slovenia to bed and I'm looking to develop the momentum I've gathered."
