ANDREW Fitton has rubbished fears Town's target of 6,000 season ticket holders is unrealistic and has urged all supporters to play their part in the push for the Championship.
The race to 6k' was getting under way in earnest at 10am this morning, with the Town chairman insistant there is evidence of a direct correlation between big attendances and success on the field.
Providing the club sell 6,000 season tickets by August 1, almost doubling the last campaign's sales, Town fans will be able to watch football at the County Ground for under a tenner for the first time since 1993.
Season ticket holders will get the chance to renew from 10am this morning, with normal sales starting a week later, and Fitton is keen to stress the importance of packing the County Ground once again.
He said: "I really don't think 6,000 is a unrealistic number. People have to understand there is a direct relationship between crowds and success.
"Of course there are exceptions, like Newcastle United, but there is definitely a marriage of interests here. The more people who come, the more money we can spend on building the right team.
"It would be great to go the games and hear people say how good it is sitting in a crowd of eight to 10,000 rather than 6,000. There is a big difference in FROM BACK PAGE the atmosphere without a doubt and the players feel that."
While Fitton's bold gamble of slashing prices for next campaign has received a big thumbs up from the terraces, some of the more cynical supporters have questioned the reality of their goal.
"If you look at Bradford City a similar scheme put thousands on their gate," said Fitton. "We want the whole town behind this and for it to be real united effort to hit that 6,000 figure and beyond.
"I think people will see good football next season. We are playing different football to when Paul Sturrock was here.
"We are building an exciting squad. I want people to say we remember when we used to have big crowds at the County Ground every week because that is what we want to bring back to the town."
