TROY Batchelor scored his first full maximum for the Robins as they roared to a 53-39 win over the Lakeside Hammers at the Abbey Stadium tonight, writes ANTHONY MARSHALL.
The young Australian was first past the chequered flag in each of his five rides, and with his teammates also putting on a great show for the home crowd, Swindon eased to a comfortable victory that never looked in doubt.
Batchelor revealed that bike trouble left him struggling in his opening rides, but he defied the odds to pick up the wins and was just delighted not to end up on the shail.
"The first two races there was something wrong with my bike and I managed to still win them," he admitted. "But we managed to sort it out and the bike felt really good after that.
"It was a good night tonight, I had a little fun and tried to relax. After Belle Vue I've had a pretty hard week.
"I've been knocked off quite a few times recently - in Belle Vue, Eastbourne and in Germany at the weekend, and I've been getting cleaned up all over the place.
"It's disheartening when that happens, so it feels even better when you can have a really good meeting to put it all behind you."
