Another Swede success for Leigh?

LEIGH Adams insists his European Grand Prix victory is already filed under the pleasant memories' section of his mind as he goes for back-to-back successes in Gothenburg tonight.

Adams roared back into title contention by taking the Leszno crown two weeks ago and will aim to build on that momentum in tonight's Swedish Grand Prix at the Ullevi Stadium - scene of his first-ever success back in 2002.

Sweden has been a happy hunting ground for the Robins skipper in the past - he has topped the podium four times in the country.

But former glory - and even his most recent triumph - has been forgotten as Adams seeks the consistency that will bring him a maiden world title.

"The last one (Leszno) was what we were after,'' he said.

"It was a dream come true really, what with it being my home Polish track and my mechanics all being from that town.

"But I've got to forget about that now. It's in the past.

"The main thing was that I got back into the pack. It all went to plan and it was nice to get back in the points.'' Adams is the defending Swedish champion, last year's win in Eskilstuna coming five years after his opening victory in the Scandanavian GP in Gothenburg.

He has also lifted those titles on a further occasion each (Malilla last year and Stockholm in 2004).

He added: "There is a lot of tradition and history in Gothenburg. I must say I've got a very good relationship with Swedish tracks and they've been pretty kind to me over the years.

"I won my first GP there and I've always done well in that country.'' Adams currently lies fourth overall in an incredibly close title race to date, within eight points of series leader Nicki Pedersen.

"I went from 14th place to fourth and Poland got me right back in it,'' added Adams.

"It's going to be really tight so being in finals and on rostrums is so important.

"I'm only eight behind the leader now so it's important for me to be consistent.

"There are five or six riders who've really shown their hand so far this season and the next step is for someone to assert themselves as the championship favourite.

"From my point of view I'm very happy because at this time last year I was a long way behind Nicki (Pedersen) and spent all year trying to bridge that gap.

Adams isn't the only Robins rider on duty tonight. Reserve Seb Alden is a track reserve.
