JAMES Wright's brave bid for a surprise British Grand Prix wildcard spot ended at the semi-final stage in tonight's British Final at Blunsdon.

The Robins youngster, 22 next week, delighted the home fans as he pulled off three superb heat wins in his five qualifying heats to earn a place in the semi-final run-off.

But Wright was unable to progress further as he trailed in last in the semi, Eastbourne's Edward Kennett and Rye House rider Tai Woffinden joining Grand Prix aces Chris Harris and Scott Nicholls in the Grand Final.

Nicholls claimed his fifth British title in seven years as Kennett seized the wildcard place with second spot, followed by Woffinden and defending chamion Harris.
