SPEEDWAY: Robins on top again

ROBINS' provided the perfect riposte to the critics predicting their fall from grace by soaring back to the top of the Elite League in front of the Sky Sports cameras at Wolverhampton last night.

Alun Rossiter's men notched their third away league win of the season with a come-from-behind 48-42 success at Monmore Green.

Reserve James Wright's dramatic heat 14 triumph sent the visitors into the lead for the first time, before the decider was halted with skipper Leigh Adams and Troy Batchelor on a 5-1 as the Wolves' pair of Fredrik Lindgren and Edward Kennett fell.

Swindon were toppled from their perch by a shock home defeat by Poole 12 days ago. But after reclaiming their summit position, Rossiter insisted: "We've got to be happy with that.

"It was a good way to answer after the Poole result. I expected to win this one but, although we made it hard for ourselves, the lads did it when it mattered.

Co-owner Terry Russell added: "Apparently, it was suggested that if we didn't win today we would tumble down the league, but there are a lot of matches to win and lose yet.

"We got the win and that was the main thing. There is a long season ahead and I find these sorts of predictions incredible.''

  • JAMES Wright has been selected in Great Britain's preliminary 12-man squad for the forthcoming Speedway World Cup.
