Town close on Amankwaah, Murray loan deal next?

MAURICE Malpas hopes he can secure Kevin Amankwaah's Swindon Town future early this week - and insists Scott Murray could still have a role at the County Ground.

The Advertiser revealed Town's interest in Amankwaah last Wednesday and manager Malpas has finally admitted he hopes to conclude a permanent deal before the Swansea City defender sets off on holiday this week.

Town target Murray looks set to extend his stay with Championship outfit Bristol City, after agreeing in principle to a one-year extension, but Malpas believes a future loan deal could still bring the winger to Wiltshire.

Meanwhile Malpas has rubbished speculation linking him with Bristol City's Brian Wilson as he grows increasingly frustrated at a lack of movement in the summer transfer market.

Town's boss remains confident Amankwaah will agree a deal with Town before the summer is out, thus seeing off rival interest from Brighton, but admits the sooner the better.

He said: "Everything is on track as far as we are concerned with Kevin. He just needs to tie things up with Swansea now.

"He goes away on holiday later this week and I would like to think we would get everything done before that. I want to get it done in the next couple of days so it can be announced.

"I am always reluctant to say a deal is done before it is signed because anything could happen.

"It would be a huge relief to get it finally sorted before he goes away."

While Malpas edges closer to landing his first signing of the summer, he is refusing to give up on another of his initial targets, Bristol City winger Scott Murray.

City's revelations late last week that the Scot was set to sign a one-year extension looked to have poured cold water on Malpas' plans but he insists the news does not necessarily kill off Town's interest.

"It looks as though Scott will sign another deal with Bristol City," said Malpas. "But even if that happened lets just say our interest would not be dead.

"It would obviously depend of a lot of factors but there could still be the option of a loan deal further down the line. That would depend on things like who they sign and how pre-season goes for him though.

"If he signs for another year at Swindon, I still think there would be a chance something could happen with us and him."

The latest Bristol City player to be linked with Town is right-sided Wilson but Malpas insists this speculation is well wide of the mark.

"There is nothing in that at all," he said. It seems we get linked with someone new every day but I can say that Wilson is not someone we have looked at."

While i wasn't at all happy at the thought we might be signing Murray on a permanant basis, the "possibility" of a loan at some stage seems to be a better option, and if he doesn't cut it we can send him back.

I'd say signing Murray on loan would be even worse than signing him permanently. His loyalties will still lie with City.

FFS Malpas, there are 90 other League clubs you can sign players from - leave the Bristol City ones alone.

Yes i see what you mean but surely a loan is the better option if MM is determined to pursue him one way or another? If it's clear his loyalties still lie with BC and that shows in his play - we send him packing. If he puts in some decent performances we can take it from there.
Agree though that it would be good to hear that MM is looking a bit wider. Wonder what input the new Chief Scout is having?

This is non news and tells us nothing we don't already know. On a different note, did anybody find it difficult watching the Euro's over the weekend knowing we are not part of it, it just didn't feel right. At least not being there has meant that we have got rid of that clown McClaren. I think we should be happy that MM is our manager, we could have McClaren as our club manager and then we would have something to moan about.

Non news? But Cryer says that "Scot" signing a new contract was not just a revelation, but "revelations" (plural). How could this not be big news?

Or is Cryer just being a f*ckwit yet again?

Murray on loan would be a good option. Would cost little and we could ship him back if he is rubbish

First I hope Barry Corr regains fitness and Builly Paynter comes good, as to Scott Murry may be a good laon addition however as to the Swansea player I just hope the medical people really give him a 100%going over(we have had our fair share of walking wounded)

AF has put MM in Place and to be honest I for one was not to pleased, yet over the last several games he got the team playing so he deserves a chance.
When you think back we nearly never had a club, so lets put faith in AF& his board and management, at the end of the day they are the proffessionals
"Good luck Town"

Ps if anyone is over july/aug let me know8Thats port de soller) you will see most bars have the Town Banners

Ah what fun it must be for you to come on here and be rude about the person writing the article. Haven't you got anything better to do?

Maybe if you could actually read, you'd notice it said "the Scot", i.e. he is Scottish. Seems pretty obviously to me who the f*ckwit is.

Sorry Andy. Still a bit touchy about the play off final are we?

I haven't watched much of the euro's as yet. I felt so disappointed that England wasn't in the euro's I turned over channels. roll on august for next season to start.

A loan deal would be the better choice with Murray. That way, we can see what hes really about. If hes still got it and is worth signing permanently, then go for it. If not, send him back.

Why would we want a player who is out of contract at his current club, has already turned us down in favour of a new contract at his current club, but is then supposedly happy to join us on loan? Cake and eat it comes to mind. Forget Murray, we want players that are enthused with playing for Swindon Town.

NO WAY SHOULD Murray be allowed to wear a Swindon Town shirt.
He doesn't like Swindon fans and we certainly don't like him.
I'm not impressed with Malpas's signing(s)so far this summer and I can't see how this encourages anyone to buy a season ticket.

Have to agree with you on this one tractorboy, So far I'm also not impressed with his ability to bring in new players to take us to the next level. I always thought he had limited experience in the transfer market when Byrns selected the 4 guys brought in last season. With this signing, bringing in a player that has not played at div 1 for 2 years is worrying. Also I'm not convinced his signing is any better than what we already have, so he may as well have kept nichols.

Still he has big support from the "give him a chance" brigade and they all said let him bring in his own people and then judge him, Well he is bringing in his own, but he is hardly a Lou Macari is he. I think he needs to pick up the pace big time, because we do not have 11 players who can hold down their place. Maybe 6 or 7 and the rest are just fringe players who will play when others are injured or suspended. I know there will be the usual know alls bleating that I'm negative, but open your eyes guys, this is not about money signings, it's all about at the moment there are no signs of MM doing the business. It should be obvious there are far better experience players available, you only have to watch sky news to see where they are all going next season.

So come on MM, you're paid to manage, so show us some passion and get out there and show us you are capable of bringing in some better quality player than you have so far .

Old town red I agree with your post completely, I have been very vocal about MM but because we won a few games at the end of the season he now seems to be the messiah !! In my oppinion we shouldn't have been in the bottom half anyway.....
