Robins go Down Under again to sign up Sedgeman brothers

SWINDON Speedway have continued their policy of recruiting young Australian riders by adding brothers Ryan and Justin Sedgeman to their growing asset base.

Following the capture of highly-rated Aussie Richard Sweetman last month, Robins have moved to secure the services of two more talented teenagers from Down Under.

Ryan, 18, is the older of the Sedgeman siblings and will spend the summer riding for the 2008 Swindon junior side, the Sprockets.

Justin, 16, who will also ride for the Sprockets, will spend about a month in England to familiarise himself with British tracks.

The brothers hail from Mildura and cut their speedway teeth on the town's Olympic Park arena, the same track that spawned Swindon captain Leigh Adams and two times World Champion Jason Crump.

Ryan is a former Australian Under 16 champion and finished an impressive sixth at this year's national U21 Championships.

Justin is also tipped for future success and is in Europe primarily for the FIM 80cc Under 16 Youth Cup Championship, which will be staged in Denmark on July 9.

Swindon co-owner Gary Patchett is excited by the arrival of the Sedgeman brothers.

"We have been waiting to relaunch the Academy side until we knew the Sedgeman boys were available," he revealed.

"Ryan is coming over for the summer while Justin is here on a short working holiday with his parents, before he has to go back to his apprenticeship.

"It's great to have them both on board and in our academy side, we're looking forward to seeing how they ride at Blunsdon."
