SPEEDWAY: 'Catch us if you can', warns Rosco

CATCH us if you can' was the message from Swindon boss Alun Rossiter to his rivals after last night's top versus bottom clash with Wolverhampton was washed out.

Rosco's table-topping Robins were due to host basement side Wolves at the Abbey Stadium until the heavens opened just minutes before the meeting was due to start.

The result was a first postponement of the season at Blunsdon, which denied Swindon the chance to extend their advantage at the top of the Elite League table.

But after a hectic schedule of seven meetings in 24 days, Rossiter revealed his riders were looking forward to a hard-earned break.

"We're well ahead with out fixtures already so maybe it's a blessing that the meeting was called off," he said.

"Of course we wanted to get some more points on the board, but the first bend was completely flooded, so we made the right decision.

"We have been quite lucky with the weather so far and we have lots of spaces before the end of the season.

"I'd rather be where we are now at the top of the table then where everybody predicted us to be.

"It's okay having meetings in hand, but the other teams still have to win them. We would rather have the points on the board and let them chase us."

Last night's postponed encounter could now be rearranged for next Thursday, with Robins not due back in action until the visit of Belle Vue Aces on July 10.

The Swindon speedway public will now turn their attentio to tomorrow's British Grand Prix at the Millennium Stadium, where Robins captain Leigh Adams will be gunning for a podium finish.

"It's a big weekend for Leigh and if he can get a win in Cardiff it will put him right back on track," said Rossiter.

"It's his home track and I'm sure there will be loads of Leigh Adams hats flying about on the night.

"I know there are seven or eight coach loads going from Swindon, so he is bound to have fantastic support."
