FITZROY Simpson insists Town triallist Mark Marshall will build a career for himself in the football league – warning Swindon fans they have not seen the last of the tricky winger.

Marshall’s County Ground dream seemed all but dead after Town boss Maurice Malpas revealed he was unlikely to offer the Eastleigh winger a contract – but his agent Simpson believes his client will still make it in the professional game.

The winger was thrown a chink of light yesterday though by Maurice Malpas, as the Kevin Betsy deal continued to stall, but a move elsewhere could be next on the agenda for the diminutive wideman.

Former Town favourite Simpson revealed 20-year-old Marshall had other options, with Yeovil and Bournemouth believed to be tracking him, but admitted a move to his own first love was the priority.

Now Marshall’s summer trial in Wiltshire seems to have been in vain, former Jamaican international Simpson is reviewing the options, claiming the next few months will prove Malpas wrong.

Simpson said: “Firstly we would both like to thank Swindon for the opportunity they gave to Mark.

“The fans, players and management were great to him but it looks as though there is no deal at the moment.

“Football is all about opinions, I know that. Swindon have been up front all along that they had other targets and you won’t find us complaining about that.

“I did want Mark to come here because I played here and still live here, and I know he was desperate to come, but we will look at it again and and explore the other options he has.

“I think Mark is a football league player, he definitely believes that, but I know that it is a game where you need to get the opportunity.

“Swindon fans should definitely watch this space though because he is not about to go away and give up. We are both convinced he will earn a deal somewhere.

“It is important to say though this deal is not yet dead.”

Town boss Malpas revealed Marshall still had a future chance in Wiltshire though.

He said: “If I can get Betsy in then that will be it, until we get a few players out of the squad.

“Once we do that maybe we can move again for Mark.”
