THE North Wilts Youth League season is little more than a week old, but one player is already staking his claim for the golden boot.
After his brace in the opening day victory over Ferndale, Danny Hale produced a superb display of finishing and helped himself to 10 goals in Wootton Bassett’s 13-1 win against Purton in Under 16 Division Two.
Jacob Hayden, Eliot Wheatley and Kane Lever also scored for Bassett with Matthew Cameron replying for Purton.
Under 17/18 Division One There was an excellent game between FC Chippenham Youth and Ferndale Rodbourne, with both teams playing some great football.
Chippenham took an early lead in the first half but in the second half Ferndale came out on top with two great goals from Steve Hall and Chris Avery.
Under 17/18 Division Two
Wickham Wanderers and Blunsdon Colts maintained their 100 per cent records with wins over Stratton Youth (12-0) and Highworth Town Juniors (4-0) respectively. Swindon Soccer Skills got off the mark with a 5-0 success against White Horse Juniors.
Under 16 Division One
SHAW led 2-1 against Amesbury courtesy of Dominic Rekowski’s strike and Ross Lowe’s header. But Thomas Marshall’s late equaliser saw Amesbury snatch a draw.
Wroughton Juniors held onto top spot with a 3-0 win at Fairford.
Under 15 Division One
The top two at the start of play could not be separated as Ferndale Rodbourne and Penhill Allstars cancelled each other out in a 1-1 draw.
Ferndale took the lead through Nathan Lee, with Lewis Chubb netting an equaliser.
FC Abbeymeads and Old Town United A took over at the top of the division. FC Abbeymeads won 3-2 against Marlborough Town and Old Town beat Fairford Youth 3-2.
Under 15 Division Two A 14-0 away win for Old Town United C against Wickham Wanderers took them clear at the top of the table. Goalscorers were Adam Wolley (4), Ryan Powell (3), Jack O’Reilly (2), Jamie Lowe, Craig Stratford, Alex Norris, Jordan Everett and Aloy Fernandes.
Under 14 Division One
Wootton Bassett made it three wins out of three, after beating Highworth Town Juniors 3-1 and Shaw A 15-0.
Bemerton, Greenmeadow A and Ferndale Rodbourne also have 100 per cent records after wins during the week over Hungerford Town (4-1), Croft Juniors A (7-0) and Highworth Town Juniors (3-0) respectively.
Under 14 Division Two
Greenmeadow B recovered from the midweek defeat to beat Fairford 6-2. Scorers for Greenmeadow were Luke Thomas (2), Lee Toomey, Tom Swindall, Joe Young and Karl Lewington.
Wanborough and Highworth Town Juniors both got off the mark after playing out an entertaining draw on Sunday. Highworth took a two-goal lead through Joshua Rhodes and Ryan Shorter before Jack Pethick pulled one back. Lewis Finney got the equaliser in the second half.
Under 13 Division One
Wickham Wanderers and Wootton Bassett have three wins out of three, and Highworth Town Juniors H are one of two other teams unbeaten. Their game against Stratton Juniors A started evenly and Stratton’s opening goal was countered by Connor Berry’s strike before the break.
The second half proved to be Highworth’s, with Andrew Edwards scoring from a great cross, then Berry again, before Bradley Caton-Garrett scored a penalty, making the final score 4-1 to Highworth.
Ferndale Rodbourne are the other unbeaten team, as they followed their midweek win with victory over Stratton Youth, 2-0.
In the Saturday match between FC Abbeymeads and Shaw A, the teams were very evenly matched, resulting in a goalless first half. Abbey Meads came out stronger in the second half and scored after five minutes through Josh Baker before holding out for a deserved victory.
Under 13 Division Two
Eldene had a successful week, following a 4-3 midweek victory over Avonvale with a 4-0 win over Cirencester Town. Liam Alford put the home team a goal up halfway through the first half.
Eldene made some tactical change at the break to open the game up and further goals from Mabick Thapa, Jack Scarrott and Ryan Shead sealed the win.
Croft A won a highly competitive match against Cricklade with the only goal of the game coming from Matt Sprules.
Under 13 Division Three
There was another well-fought match between Highworth Town Juniors and Penhill Knights. Highworth broke the deadlock after 20 minutes with a strike from Benjamin Martin. Goals from Ryan Higgs and Jack Ballantyne gave Highworth a comfortable 3-0 lead. Penhill showed great determination to try and claw their way back into the game for most of the second half, before late goals from Liam Marsden and Macaulay Reynolds gave Highworth a flattering 5-0 result.
Under 12 Division One
Lydiard Youth opened their campaign with a 5-0 home win against newly promoted Wootton Bassett Town A. Goals from Aaron Sawer, Joe English, Kieron O’Daly, Jack Lowers and Louis Freegard-Morton ensured the points for Lydiard.
However it is Chiseldon and Robins who sit on top of the table, each with two wins from two games. This weekend’s games saw victories over Purton (5-1) and Swindon Soccer Skills (4-1) respectively.
Under 12 Division Two
Croft Juniors maintained their good start to the season with a thoroughly deserved victory over AFC Barbury. James Sims opened the scoring for Croft with Barbury replying just before half time. Baks Jammeh got his first goal for Croft to seal a fine 2-1 win.
Under 12 Division Three
Highworth Town Juniors T and South Cerney sit on top of the table after victories against Wanborough (10-2) and Shaw (4-1) respectively. Old Town had a great win against a tough South Swindon side. A hat-trick from Donal Mann and further goals from Scott Brown, Jacob Green, Joel Hutton (pen), and Valentino Sibilla sealed a 7-2 win.
Under 11 West
Honours were shared when Fairford Youth played host to Lydiard Youth B. Elliot Passmore opened the scoring with a great goal from a Fraser Ridley cross for Lydiard before Jamie Hartshorn equalised for Fairford.
Tom Bush put the visitors in front, heading in a corner from Emrah Alman, but with seconds remaining Joshua Mawer cut in from the left and beat the keeper to level the match at 2-2.
Wanborough beat Greenmeadow 8-3, with Luke Gay, Jacob Makin, Joseph Crawford, Taylor Smague, Ryan Buckenham, Jason Raymond, Ben Spurdell and an own goal doing the damage.
A poor first half display by Highworth Town Juniors J against a much hungrier Highworth Town Juniors T saw them trail by three goals at the interval.
The second half was a great improvement with goals by Adam Jelley and a beauty by Joe Adams to bring it back to 2-3. It wasn’t enough though and Highworth T held on to secure a well-deserved victory.
Under 11 North
Swindon Rangers enjoyed two victories in the week. The first a 6-2 home victory against Shrivenham & Watchfield, with goals from Alex Fenton (3), Jake Evans, Conor Cleary and Dan Wheeler.
Sunday saw them journey to league newcomers, Newbury AFC, and secure a 4-2 victory, Ben Holley, Alex Fenton and a Jack Steed double securing the points.
Hat-tricks from Bradley Houston and Alex Dinsmore helped Lydiard Youth A to a comfortable win over Brinkworth Cats A. Other goals from Dean Griffin (2), Joe Miller, Liam Mawson, Cameron Shaw, Gabriel Diba and William Middler sealed the victory.
Under 11 Central
In a tightly-contested match with Brinkworth Cats B, Cricklade Youth won 2-0 thanks to two sharp finishes in either half from Gary McDonald.
Jordan Yeates and Billy Gibbs (2) were on target for Blunsdon Colts as they sealed victory over Greenmeadow B.
Under 10 West
Two goals from Tom Head and Samuel James’s strike earned Wanborough a 3-3 draw with Ferndale.
Under 10 South
Three first half goals from Liam Wells, Ryan Collins and Martin Sinclair saw Brinkworth Cats finish the first half firmly in control against Coleview.
Two further second-half goals from Sinclair and Sam Garlick saw Brinkworth extend their lead but a strong finish from Coleview with three goals in seven minutes led to an exciting finish, with Brinkworth holding on to their lead to end the game 5-4 winners.
Greenmeadow B moved clear at the top of the table with a 5-1 win against Shaw B.
Under 10 North
Lydiard Youth followed a 4-3 midweek win over Swindon Soccer Skills with victory against Hungerford Town A. In a very even first half against Hungerford, only a Ryan Butler goal separated the sides at half time. In the second half Lydiard played some excellent attacking football with goals from Joe Hooper (5), Ryan Smith and Cameron Bovell’s first goal, for a final score of 8-1.
Under 10 Central
Penhill Knights recorded their first win of the season with a 16-0 victory over a tenacious Stratton Juniors B side.
On the score sheet for Penhill Knights were Liam Larby, Callum Goldsmith-Newman, Ryan Meader-Harris and Chiarna Deller all scoring once, Keelan Boyce and Kye Shiell both scored braces with Josh Orchard and Aaron Rowland notching four apiece.
Ferndale Rodbourne B followed their mid-week thrashing of Old Town with another win over Pewsham.
Bertram Clement’s deflected strike opened the scoring and the same player smashed in the second. After the break Glen Walker headed past the Pewsham keeper and Joshua Iles added a late fourth, his seventh in two games.
Chiseldon and Wroughton Rovers played out a 1-1 thriller at the Rec. Chiseldon went in front through a well worked move, ending in a goal from Jamie Corden.
Wroughton fought back and equalised with a goal following a penalty that rebounded off the post.
Under 9 Central
There was an excellent contest between two good footballing sides in the match between Swindon Rangers and Shaw. Rangers took the lead in the first half with a well worked goal set up by Luke Haines and finished by Joe Tyson. In the second half Shaw came back into it with an equaliser from Jordan Clark, only for Rangers to go ahead again with a penalty scored by Joe Tyson.
Shaw equalised with another goal from Clark five minutes before the end and the game ended all square at 2-2.
There was a very tight match between Wanborough and Ramsbury. The Ramsbury goalkeeper had an outstanding game and was only beaten by a late scrambled goal from Marcus Raymond.
Under 9 West
Four teams have two wins out of two in this division. Wootton Bassett Town A won their second game on the trot, against Wroughton Juniors A, with goals from Euan Burke and Harrison Russ in the first half and Lewis Ward and Tyler Fitchett in the second half. The final score was 4-2, with the Wroughton goals scored by Brad Sealy and Brandon Duddy.
Man of the match Thomas Miller scored three as Lydiard Youth A beat Highworth Town Juniors 8-0. Further goals from Oliver Rejek (2), Luke Jones (2) and Ewan Wykeham-Martin sealed the win.
Under 9 South
Wootton Bassett Town B won an evenly contested game with Highworth Town Juniors T with a single goal from Tom Taylor-Adey in the first half.
Under 9 North
In a superb advert for mini football Cirencester Town playing their first game of the season defeated Liden 6-4 in a game that could have gone either way right up until the final whistle. Cirencester took an early lead but Liden battled back through Lewis Cholod.
The second half saw a feast of goals with Jordan Scoble (2) and Sam Jones scoring for Liden. Cirencester’s goals were scored by Sam Brewster (4) and James Thomas (2). It was a stern challenge for Coleview Juniors against a strong Malmesbury side. Both teams created several scoring opportunities, but it was Coleview who took a first-half lead through a Jaidan Hackett strike.
The second half saw much of the same strong attacking and defence from both teams; but a great team effort saw Coleview hang on to take all three points.
