Poker expansion is the real deal

10:30am Friday 3rd October 2008

STRATTON’S KC Club well and truly lives up to its billing as the King of Clubs - whatever its members turn their hands to.

With a football team - KC FC - who are yet to be defeated in Division One of the Wiltshire League, and a successful cricket side as well, the club is flourishing.

And as one of only eight (non casino) venues across the country with a gambling permit to play to unlimited poker stakes, KC has added another string to its bow.

“There aren’t many places around that can offer so much sport and at such a decent level as well,” said KC Club owner Jon Slattery.

“Last year was the first year for our football team. We entered the Wiltshire League Division Two, won that and won the Fountain Trophies Cup as well.

“We’ve had a really good start to Division One this time and have got some good lads playing for us.

“We’re hoping to get up to the Premier Division next season and from then on who knows how far we could go? We’ll go as far as we can, but it has to be enjoyable.”

The ever-growing sport of poker is a major part of life at the Ermin Street Club.

And Slattery said: “We’ve taken poker to another level in the town and the area with the permit we’ve got.

“There’s a huge amount of people who don’t know we’re here, and anybody’s welcome to apply for membership.

“No-one else has got a gaming permit for this type of operation in the whole of Wiltshire or the south west.

“When we were looking at setting up the poker rooms we took trips to Manchester and London to have a look at some of the casinos and we believe that our set-up is of a better standard.

“From the comfortable chairs to the chips, what we saw in some of the big places didn’t get anywhere near the quality that we’ve got here.”

KC club host four poker nights a week, and are running a poker tournament on Friday, October 10, with a seven-day Caribbean cruise for two people worth £3,000 as the first prize. For more information about entry and the club, call 07891 067051 or visit www.kcclub.co.uk.
