THREE members of the Swindon Judo Club (pictured right) competed for Great Britain in the European Judo Masters in Prague at the weekend.
The event attracted 600 fighters from 31 nations with a large Russian Team dominating the medal table.
Lee Adams was first of the Swindon boys in action, fighting in the men’s 49-54 years under 81kg section.
He beat a strong French opponent in the first round before losing a tight decision to World silver medalist Manfred Zoellner from Germany.
Fortunately, Zoellner went on to reach the final giving Adams a chance to go for bronze in the repachage, where he finished seventh overall.
Next up was Roy Walker in the men’s 29-34 years U73kg section.
Walker drew local favourite Petr Sram in the first round, narrowly losing out to his Czech rival.
Craig Curtis was also in action and the current world bronze medallist was competing in the men 39-44 year’s U100kg. After sailing through the early rounds he reached the semi-final against old rival and current world champion Azar Agrarov of Azerbaijan.
Despite being in charge of the early part of the contest, he was caught with a sweet counter throw to end his chances of European gold.
Curtis then fought and won bronze against a Romanian rival.
