KEVIN Amankwaah is determined to come out of the shadows at Swindon Town in 2009, and knows he has the perfect man at the helm to achieve his desire of regular first team football.

The full-back played under new Town boss Danny Wilson when the pair were together at Bristol City earlier this century, and Amankwaah was touted as a potential star of the future.

However, after some serious injuries and a number of clubs since his Ashton Gate days, the 26-year-old has been forced to play a largely understudy’s role to Jack Smith following his arrival in Wiltshire in the summer.

But Amankwaah is hoping the arrival of Wilson can re-ignite his Swindon career, admitting: “It’s always nice to have a fresh start when you’re not in the team.

“It’s also good to go back to a manager who liked you, and you liked him. We did well at Bristol City when he was there and hopefully he’ll come here and we’ll do well again.

“I did pretty well at City under him before my injuries, which hit me hard, but hopefully I’ll shine again under him at Swindon.

“It’s nice when a manager comes in and knows what you can do already. I played under him so he knows what he’s going to get out of me. It’s good for me and good for him as well.”

Amankwaah admits he has noticed a change of style about Town’s training since Wilson’s arrival, and believes the manager can get his under-achieving team heading in the right direction.

“He’s come in and put his points across about how he wants us to play - which is more of a passing style, and it’s good at the moment,” said the defender.

“As a team we’re conceding too many goals, so hopefully with Danny coming we can start to keep some clean sheets. It’s all about results now because we’ve obviously got to get away from where we are now.

“At the start of the season we were looking bright and our aim was the play-offs, but now we find ourselves just above relegation so the first aim has to be to just get away from the relegation zone.

“Whatever happens then is a bonus.’’

  • Former Swindon Town midfielder Steafni Miglioranzi could find himself in the same midfield as David Beckham following a Major League move to LA Galaxy in the United States.

Miglioranzi, who played for Galaxy before Beckham’s arrival, has been snapped up by Galaxy coach Bruce Arena from the Columbus Crew.

The 31-year-old Brazilian-born New Yorker, who featured in Town’s 2003-04 play-off campaign, scored three goals in 37 games for the Crew over two seasons.
