SIMON Cox revealed he is getting “sick and tired” of the constant speculation surrounding his County Ground future, as the striker eyes a swift resolution to any potential future destination.

The 21-year-old has struck 28 goals, including three hat-tricks, in a prolific first full season as a professional.

Unsurprisingly, Cox’s goalscoring feats have attracted attention from a host of clubs in the Premier League and Championship, with the most significant interest seeming to come from West Bromwich Albion, whose manager Tony Mowbray and assistant Mark Venus have both watched the striker irecently.

Derby County, Leicester City and QPR are also known admirers of the youngster, but Cox insists he is still none the wiser over where his future lies.

“If I’m being honest I’m getting sick and tired of reading everything in the papers,” he admitted. “I’m reading names from all over the shop. I’m picking up papers every day looking at Premier League, Championship, Scottish, La Liga...

“It’s getting boring for me now. I just want to be able to know where I’m going to be - whether it’s here or somewhere else.

“If (Saturday’s game against Bristol Rovers) is my last home game then I’ll try to go out with a bang.

“If it’s not, then I’ll see you all next season. That’s the type of attitude I’ve got at the moment.”

Town chairman Andrew Fitton revealed in January he had opened discussions to try and extend Cox’s contract at the club but any such deal remains unsigned and the pair will sit down to discuss his future at the end of the season.

“I’m waiting now until the final game finishes and then we’ll talk,” said Cox.

“My representatives will go in to see the chairman and we will talk at that time. But at the moment, I’m still here.”

West Brom boss Mowbray meanwhile refused to be drawn on whether he planned to make a move for Cox, saying yesterday: “The day I went to watch him (Simon Cox), they got beat 1-0 by Leyton Orient and he didn’t influence the game much.

“I didn’t walk around with a big sticker on my forehead saying ‘I am watching Simon Cox’. “I understand the boy Cox has scored lots of goals.

“I wasn’t impressed on the one day I saw him and yet the game before, when a member of my stafff watched Swindon play at Northampton, he scored a hat-trick.

“It’s my job to watch players when I can.”
