TOWN club skipper Hasney Aljofree is one month away from his fitness D-Day as he bids to prove he can make the start of next season.

Aljofree suffered a knee injury against Yeovil in December and has not played since, and while other squad members have been relaxing in foreign climes this summer, the captain has had a much tougher time of it.

The skipper has been involved in extensive rehabilitation on a daily basis, and will find out at the end of June if all his hard work - which includes exhaustive sessions of swimming and cycling along with his ongoing treatment - have been enough to heal his knee.

If the scan yields a positive result, the tall defender will be allowed to begin proper running, and eventually, full training.

“The scan’s the big decider, then I’ve got a lot of catching up in terms of fitness,” said Aljofree.

“I feel like I can run but I’m being held back because it (the injury) needs the time. I won’t be rushed back in after seven or eight months out.

“It’s been frustrating this summer, all the years I’ve been in football I’ve always had my summers off. It feels like I’ve been in a whole year.

“Every week we’ve got a new (fitness) plan and it’s madness, to be honest.”

Aljofree, who turns 31 in mid-July, revealed he had found the road back to fitness far tougher than regular training.

The captain suffered the injury days before Danny Wilson was appointed as manager, meaning he has yet to turn out for Town in front of the County Ground boss.

But he has received assurances from Wilson that provided he can prove his fitness, he has a big part to play in Town’s campaign in 2009/10.

And Aljofree is in no doubt what he wants to see from his team next term.

“There’s got to be a big emphasis on consistency,” he said, “And there’s got to be a lot of belief, which has to be channelled in the right way.”
