FIVE records were broken when the Swindon Schools Year 7 and 8 Athletics Championships were contested on Monday.
Two of these came in the Year 7 girls’ competition, with C. Huynh of Ridgeway running 5:24.4 in the 1500m, and H. Ting (St Joseph’s) launching the discus 21.42m.
The team competition in that age group saw Commonweal triumph on 82 points, 10 ahead of Isambard and 13 ahead of Greendown.
The boys’ Year 7 competition saw Greendown’s J. Lewis sprint the 100m in 12.6 seconds, to help his team to overall victory.
Ridgeway finished well behind in second, one point ahead of St Joseph’s.
The remaining two records were broken by Isambard pupils. J.Bonner leapt to 5.50m in the year eight boys’ long jump as his team finished third overall, behind winners Ridgeway and runners-up Nova Hreod.
In the Year 8 girls’ contest, Isambard’s K. Chapman took first in a new record of 11.9 seconds.
Ridgeway romped to team gold on 124 points, with Commonweal second on 99 and Isambard third on 92.
