THERE was no fairy tale ending for Walcot’s Amin Hassan on his England debut at the GB Youth Championships.
In his bantamweight semi-final he met experienced Welsh International Shaun McGoldrick but his rival forced the pace early on.
Hassan did land with some left jabs but these shots failed to register on the judges’ scorecards.
The 17-year-old, pictured right, worked hard to redress the balance during the final round and a closing score of 7-0 to McGoldrick was rather unfair on Hassan.
He said: “He was a tough opponent to meet on my international debut but I can’t understand why none of my punches were counted. Fair enough he was the better guy on the day but I should have scored at least three or four points.”
Hassan became the eighth Walcot boxer to wear an England vest in the past five years joining other names such as: Jamie Cox (full international and Commonwealth Games gold medallist) Jorgen Cetaj (schoolboy international and European Union gold medallist). Danny Bharj (Under 18 international and Three Nations champion) Marlon Reid (full international) Ryan Martin (schoolboy international and Three Nations gold medallist) Tommy McDonagh (schoolboy international and Three Nations silver medallist) Connor Wells (schoolboy international and Three Nations gold medallist) Amin Hassan (youth international and Three Nations bronze medal) .
