RESERVE Paul Hurry insists previous results between Swindon Robins and Lakeside Hammers are an unfair reflection of his side’s abilities, ahead of tonight’s clash between the teams at the Abbey Stadium.
Lakeside have been something of a bogey team for Robins this season, as the Essex outfit have beaten the Elite League leaders in three out of four meetings.
But Hurry, who is expected to recover from a back injury in time for tonight’s face-off at Blunsdon, insists Robins are by far the superior team.
Robins were without skipper Leigh Adams and Matej Zagar for a leg each of the Knockout Cup defeat to Lakeside last month, while reserve Ryan Fisher also missed both ties.
Following the loss, Alun Rossiter cited the absences as being a major factor in the result, a sentiment which Hurry agrees with.
“We’re capable of showing them up, we’re much better than them,” he said.
“Hopefully normal service will be resumed. If we all do what we should do we should have a good night.”
Hurry is expected to return from an injury he picked up in the home win over Coventry Bees a fortnight ago, and aggravated against Eastbourne on Monday last week.
The journeyman originally crashed into the air fence at Blunsdon with his bike sliding in behind him, resulting in a fractured rib that forced its way into his back.
Hurry is due for one more physio session this morning as he looks to recover in time to help his team make it 10 straight Elite League wins in a row.
And the reason for the Robins red-hot league form is because team members are going about their business with a smile on their face, according to Hurry.
“It’s a lot to do with all the riders being happy,” he said.
“If you go to work happy and you love your job then you do your job the best you can.
“We all get on, have a good time, and when it comes to serious matters, we’re up for it.”
Meanwhile, Robins team boss Alun Rossiter has insisted tonight’s meeting is not about revenge, but admitted his men were champing at the bit to get underway.
“We’re not looking for revenge for the cup but I know the riders are pretty fired up for it, because they want to put that behind them,” he said.
“We don’t like to call it revenge but we’ll be fired up for it.
“(Jonas) Davidsson is going good and (Adam) Shields is going good so we’ll have to be on top of our game.”
