LEFT-BACK Tom Bird has made a shock exit from Swindon Supermarine less than three weeks after signing for the club.
The ex-Fleet Town man has been released by boss Mark Collier because he is unable to guarantee his availibility for midweek training sessions.
Bird, who is based in Basingstoke, has got a new part-time coaching job which will involve him working in the week, making it difficult to return to Wiltshire for training.
“Obviously we can’t have 16 training and one not, so unfortunately we’ve had to let him go,” said Collier.
With Danny Allen and Alex Stanley also able to play at left-back, the Hunts Copse chief was not overly concerned about Bird’s exit, saying: “It’s not an area where we’re short.”
Meanwhile, Enoch Boateng has been given until the weekend to decide if he is able to play for Supermarine this campaign.
Boateng lives in east London and does not drive, and Collier wants a guarantee that the midfielder can make two training sessions a week throughout the season.
Meanwhile, released Swindon Town youngster Sam Morris has put pen to paper on a deal at Hunts Copse.
The utility man had been courted by Forest Green Rovers but has now tied up his future in Wiltshire.
A decision is due from Collier imminently on whether to sign former Cardiff youngster Sam Wade.
Supermarine crushed Wootton Bassett 6-1 last night, while Shrivenham went down 4-1 at Thatcham Town. Malmesbury's game against Wroughton fell foul of the weather.
